Muhagachi Chacha: Give me opportunity to study at Harvard

The best student in this year’s Form Six examinations Muhagachi Chacha (21) from Kibaha Secondary School, Coast Region granted an exclusive interview to our Reporter Gerald Kitabu regarding the secret behind his outstanding performance: EXERPTS:

QUESTION: You happened to be the best overall student. Tell us what is the secret behind your success?

ANSWER: Hard work, commitment and determination to realize my dreams at the end of my two years of Advanced Level studies. My time table tells it all. I would wake up early in the morning, be in the class from 8.00 am until 10.00 before break for tea for one hour.

At 11.00 am, I would go back to class until 3.30 pm and break for lunch before proceeding on to the school library until 7.00pm. I would sleep for one hour and wake up again, sometimes mingle with my friends until 8.00 pm and go back to class until 12.00pm when I would go to bed.

Q: Why did you have such a tight schedule?

A: I am from a poor family which was enough reason for me to study hard so that I can rescue my family and the nation from poverty. Me and my family live in a small house with three rooms, one for us, another for my parents and a seating room. To me this is poverty.

Q: What was your time table at home?

A: I was brought up in a poor family. The only source of income was selling milk from two female cows. So, it is my duty to sustain this income by feeding cattle knowing that it was from cattle’s milk my school fees and other requirements were paid. I was also doing cooking activities at home and washing clothes and utensils. We were brought up to do all these kinds of jobs at home regardless of being male.

Q: Before doing Form Six examinations, what was your academic records at secondary school?

A: I had very good academic records, for example, during Ordinary Level, I scooped an award in Geography while at Kibaha secondary school, I emerged winner in Maths. However, in 2009, I was the best student during mock examination in Coast Region where Kibaha secondary school was one of the competing schools. In both ordinary and advanced levels, I was ranked between 1 and 3 in academic performance in class.

Q: What was your reaction when you received news that you had emerged the best student?

A: I was overwhelmed by joy. I first received the news from my father.

My father had got the news from journalists who were in attendance when the results were being announced by NECTA Executive Secretary Dr. Joyce Ndalichako. However, I expected the results because I prepared well.

Q: How do you assess the examination?

A: The examination required one to study and understand all subjects he or she was taking. Those who were cramming ended up in failure because there were no repeating questions from the past papers. So, those who were cramming and solving the past papers ended up failing.

Q: What was the most difficult subject for your PCM combination?

A: All were simple except physics on practical part because there were some questions that needed a student to think faster before he or she could attempt.

Q: What university would you like to go for further learning?

A: If I had to chose a University to go for further learning, I would go for Harvard University in USA because it is a respected University all over the world which produces famous people like the face book founder, an American young man Mark Elliot Zuckerberg, and president Baraka Obama. If you look at these people you learn something special. These are not ordinary men, they have made history and I would like to be part of them, but from Tanzania.

Q: What course would you choose?

A: I would choose telecommunications because it is hot cake in the labour market, but also one can secure a job from any part of the world.

Q: What are you doing now?

A: I am teaching chemistry and Mathematics at Kinyerezi community school. The school management has requested me to teach Form Three students for two hours in the afternoon from 12.00 pm for a monthly salary of Sh60,000 per month. However, I have my own tuition class called Chamoto tuition centre at Banana where I earn some money for my daily needs.

Q: Being a successful student is also a challenge; especially ladies may start proposing love affairs which in turn may ruin your long toiled success, what are your views on that?

A: I had never been with a girl friend, and I would not do that this time, I am still a student and I will maintain that until I grow up enough to marry.

Q: When you look at our school curriculum, what is missing?

A: I think we should be like the Chinese who use their own language to develop. The Chinese are about to outsmart the Americans because they use their own language in science and technology.

In Tanzania, Kiswahili should be encouraged, I know many people will oppose this, but it is a matter of fact that learning science and technologies using foreign languages is an obstacle to developing faster, because you need to toil first to master their languages before you can start learning their technological systems.

Q: How many are you in your family?

A: We are only four and I am the second born. My brother is studying at St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, Mbezi, Dar es Salaam and the others are in secondary school.

Q: What is your advice?

A: Students should work hard; it doesn’t matter whether one comes from a poor family or not, if you study hard, commit yourself to the studies. obviously you will make it to the top. However, I call upon the government to secure for me at Harvard University; I will appreciate that very much because that has been my dream for a long time.

Gov. John Kasich calls police officer 'idiot' for giving him traffic ticket

In a speech last month Ohio Gov. John Kasich emphatically referred to a police officer who ticketed him for a driving violation as "an idiot."
Kasich, now the Republican governor, was ticketed on Jan. 11, 2008, for "approaching a public safety vehicle with lights displayed" on Route 315 in Columbus and later paid an $85 fine. But he was not happy about it.
During a Jan. 21 speech to Ohio EPA workers, the governor recalled the day three years ago when he was given the ticket. In telling the story, Kasich, who took office on Jan. 10, three times referred to the Columbus police officer who ticketed him as an idiot .

"I said, officer I, are you kidding, I didn't, I didn't see any, I didn't even see any, where the heck was it?" a stammering Kasich recalls. "The last thing I would ever do would be to pass an emergency, are you kidding me?"
john-kasich-091410.jpgView full sizeOhio Gov. John Kasich, shown in a 2010 photograph.
"He says, 'Well I understand that. Give me your license,'" Kasich continues. "He goes back to the car, comes back, gives me a ticket and says you must report to court, if you don't report to court we're putting a warrant out for your arrest."
Then Kasich stills himself and bellows, "He's an idiot! We just can't act that way. What people resent are people who are in the government who don't treat the client with respect."
A leading police group responded to the governor's comments on Wednesday, hours after the video surfaced.
"Police officers in Ohio already do difficult and dangerous work, so it doesn't help when the governor calls an officer doing his job and protecting the public an 'idiot,' " said Ohio Fraternal Order of Police president Jay McDonald.
Kasich's comments are on a YouTube video that the Ohio Democratic Party referred to in a press release. Democrats and the FOP on Wednesday noted that Kasich is backing Senate Bill 5, a proposal that would end collective bargaining in Ohio, which would directly impact police officers and other government organized labor workers.
"I never thought I'd see the day when a governor of this great state would call a police officer an 'idiot' for simply doing his job," said Ohio Democratic Party chairman Chris Redfern. "Even worse, he wants to eliminate the right of law enforcement workers to collectively bargain to provide a better life for their families."
Redfern said Kasich's behavior is unbecoming of a governor and that "he should immediately apologize to all law enforcement officers for disparaging the work they do on behalf of the people of Ohio."
But Kasich isn't apologizing.
"The governor, of course, respects the important work of law enforcement officers and regrets his poor choice of words in describing his frustration in receiving a ticket," Kasich's spokesman Rob Nichols said. "The point of the governor's remarks to Ohio EPA employees was to stress that all public employees must provide better, more responsive service to taxpayers."

1.W-2 forms and 1099-forms.
2.Kama una watoto unahitaji tarehe zao za kuzaliwa na SSN zao.
3.Nenda hapa http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html  ,Halafu click "browse a list of freefile companies"  halafu chagua kampuni yoyote unayotumia.Mimi napendelea H&R Block pamoja na TURBO Tax.

8.Vitu muhimu vya kutosahau ili uweze kupata fedha nyingi, Earned income credit,Tuition credit,Child credit,Child care and child dependent credit.

A sad story worth shared

COLUMBUS (AP) — An immigration attorney convicted of scheming to illegally obtain a green card persuaded a judge Thursday to delay deportation proceedings to her native Ghana until Friday.
Lillian Asante and her ex-husband, Kwadwo Asante, are not fighting the return home, which they expect to happen soon. But they balked at a court hearing when it appeared immigration officials would take them into custody immediately after their sentencing on a charge of marriage fraud.
The Asantes had brought their 1-year-old son, Kofi, to sentencing and didn’t appear ready to enter detention.
U.S. District Court Judge Gregory Frost delayed sentencing the couple to two years of probation until today.
Under a last-second arrangement, the Asantes will be allowed to stay home with electronic monitoring after the sentencing, said their attorney, Ritchey Hollenbaugh.
“My understanding is they’ll be on home-detention until the paperwork is worked out, and then they’ll be on a plane to Ghana,” he said.
The Asantes married in Ghana in 1999 and entered the United States in August 2002. Lillian Asante attended Ohio State University law school, earning her degree in 2005, while Kwadwo Asante, 40, earned an MBA at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
In May 2004, the couple divorced in Ghana and schemed to marry U.S. citizens to obtain their green cards, according to federal court documents.
In January 2005, with Lillian present, Kwadwo married Jonella McWilson of Columbus. A year later, in February 2006, with Kwadwo present, Lillian married Randy Weight of Apollo Beach, Fla.
Each newly married couple then submitted immigration forms to apply for permanent residence. In the meantime, prosecutors say, the Asantes bought a house together in suburban Columbus — listing themselves as husband and wife — and, in 2008, had their son.
The plot unraveled when immigration officials interviewed Asante and Weight about their pending immigration cases, and both acknowledged that the marriage was fraudulent, according to court documents. The Asantes pleaded guilty last September to unlawfully entering into marriages with U.S. citizens to evade U.S. immigration laws.
“A couple of great educations lost,” Hollenbaugh said. “Hopefully they can still contribute once they get back over there, but they won’t be coming back here.”
McWilson declined to comment Thursday. Weight told The Associated Press the marriage was a fake.
“That divorce is supposed to be happening right now,” Weight said. “It was really bogus the whole time anyway. We never lived together or anything.” He referred all questions to his attorney, who did not immediately return a call.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials arrested 238 people across the country last year on charges of marriage fraud. That includes 11 people charged in Columbus in an unrelated plot to arrange sham marriages to help people from eastern Europe gain legal residency.
In December, a 72-year-old Texas woman pleaded guilty to arranging some 170 matches between more than a dozen of her relatives and foreigners willing to pay cash to marry Americans and get green cards.
McWilson and Weight have not been charged but could be prosecuted for the fraudulent marriages under federal immigration laws. Prosecutors have not said if they plan to charge the pair.
